About Us
Added Advantage is a Los Angeles based personal tutoring service specializing in coursework from grade school through college, study skills and preparation for standardized testing including SSAT, SAT, SAT II Subject Exams and AP exams.
Added Advantage is a service provided by Bricolage Learning, an organization operating under Bricolage Systems, LLC. Incorporated in 2004 by a group of individuals with more than two decades of combined experience in education at all levels, Bricolage Systems seeks to realize a radically different vision for education in the 21st century.
A strong foundation
The founder of Bricolage Systems, Dr. Bakhtiar Mikhak, is a theoretical elementary particle physicist and a leading researcher in the field of learning and technology. An abiding interest in the state of science education and a desire to become more deeply involved in the education of his two children lead Dr. Mikhak to focus his energies on learning research. In 1997 Dr. Mikhak joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Epistemology and Learning research initiative, founded at the MIT Media Lab in the early 1980s by Dr. Seymour Papert. Initially contributing to ongoing research, Dr. Mikhak founded the Grassroots Invention Group in 2000 with the aim of encouraging and supporting individuals and communities seeking greater independence over their own learning and development.
Dr. Mikhak is recognized for his contributions to the Lego Mindstorms product line and for his work on education worldwide, including his service as Technical Director of the National Science Foundation funded PIE Network of Museums and the Outreach Director and Fab Lab Project Leader for the NSF Center for Bits and Atoms at MIT. Dr. Mikhak is one of the founding board members of the Community Charter School of Cambridge.

together by Dr. Mikhak to further his mission: the empowerment of individuals through education. Added Advantage tutoring services further this mission by helping individuals take charge of their own learning so they can realize their full academic potential.

Our approach is based on solid pedagogical principles, and we provide a host of support material to our tutors and our clients, but our philosophy is far from “one size fits all.” Our tutors work hard with you to establish an understanding of your own personal needs and goals. We help you to develop a unique personal plan, and we will stay with you for as long as it takes to follow through to success.
Learning is hard work, but it should be as stress-free and comfortable as possible. All of our tutoring services can be worked in to your busy schedule, and our tutors will meet with you one-on-one in the comfort of your home, local library, or community center.

All Bricolage Learning tutors are carefully selected based on academic excellence, diversity of interests, and ability to interact with individuals of all levels and learning styles. Tutors are given additional training and support materials by Bricolage Learning, who will work with you to find the right tutor for your needs, and who will be available to you at any time should you have a question or concern that cannot be addressed by your tutor. In addition, you can rest assured that all Bricolage Learning tutors have passed a mandatory criminal background check.
